India has a very rich biodiversity of various origins. Wildlife in India is preserved in plenty of national parks & wildlife sanctuaries. Study shows that India along with 17 other mammoth diverse countries is a habitat of about 60-70% world’s biodiversity. National park in India:-
Hailey national park now known as Jim Corbett national park first national park of India it was established in 1935. India had only five national parks in 1970. In1972 Indian government started wildlife protections act to safe guard the habitats of conservation reliant species. Wildlife act was introduced in 1980. As on April, 2007 there were 96 national parks in India. All national park land encamped a combined 38029.18 km from India’s total surface area.
Now there are 166 national parks authorized in India which includes some famous national park like- kaziranga national park, Corbett national park, gleathea national park, Indra Gandhi national park, kanha national park, nandankanan national park etc.
Wild life sanctuary:-
India has over 551 animal sanctuaries. Some wildlife sanctuaries are specifically named bird sanctuary. Wildlife sanctuary and national park is indeed a delight for the nature lover. The wildlife sanctuary speared across the country offer a fascinating diversity of terrain flora and fauna. India has preserved vast tract of forest and habitats in its 441 wildlife sanctuary. Wild life sanctuary has significant importance for the conservation of some flagship faunal species like national chambal wildlife sanctuary.
Project tiger:-
Project tiger is administered by national tiger conservation authority
It was an initiative by government of India to protect tigers & provide them a natural habitat. There were more then 40 project tiger reserve covering area over 37761 km in 2008. The number of tigers in wild India has gone up by 20% according to latest tiger census.1706 tigers including in sunder bans at the last count. Project tiger was meant to identify the limited factors to mitigate by suitable management.
